South Park: Snow Day! cheats and tips

South Park is back and this time it's winter. Play with up to three friends, use matchmaking, or solo the game with ally bots and battle through the snow-piled town of South Park. Here are our best cheats, tips and strategy to help you smash this game.

South Park: Snow Day! cheats and tips

Finding Dark Matter

Dark Matter is a special gift from Mr. Hankey (if you're a fan of the series, you'll know what this resource really is) and one of the key resources in the game which is used for unlocking character upgrades. Here are some of the common sources of this resource:

  • Look out for dark pools that resemble scattered fecal matter. You have to approach said spot to get the prompt to gather Dark Matter.
  • Loot from purple treasure chests. There should be a few of them on every quest. You need to interact with the chest or whack it open to get its contents.
  • Defeat enemies. More difficult enemies will drop larger glass of Dark Matter. Don't forget to walk over these dropped jars and pick them up after battle.
  • Obtain from Henrietta. Henrietta is the goth girl that will appear randomly in various locations during your playthroughs. She'll offer three random cards which may contain upgrades, extra TP, and better yet, extra Dark Matter.

Normally, it's always a good idea to go for extra dark matter since you can use it to permanently improve how many perks and what perks you can unlock. At the end of the day, you should decide to pick what you need in your current situation.

Re-allocating Dark Matter perks

It is possible to refund allocated Dark Matter perks with no added cost before starting a run. This gives you some flexibility to properly adjust your character's build to take advantage of whatever weapon and power combination you'll like to try. This flexibility is further enhanced when playing with other human players since they can do the same. However, when you're just playing with AI companions, you're stuck with whatever default loadout and build they have since you can't modify them.

Gear towards survivability for higher difficulty

When tackling more difficult quests, expect yourself and your allies to be downed several times. As such, having health upgrades and a healing power will increase your survivability. If you want to increase your chances, there are also other offensive powers that buff your base HP or increase the health packs dropped by enemies. Having access to this gives you better chances to revive allies as well, especially if your character can take a few hits without getting knocked down during the revival process.

This is particularly true when trying to play with AI teammates. When playing with other players, you can talk amongst yourselves and assign roles (like who's going to be the primary healer, attacker, etc) which can directly influence your loadout and whoever in the team is going to adjust your loadout towards healing and support.

Obtaining Toilet Paper

The setting of South Park: Snow Day takes place in the middle of a heavy blizzard that engulfed the titular town. As a joke poking through the 'great toilet paper shortage' of the recent pandemic, TP has become an essential resource as well in the game. During quests, make sure to destroy or interact with coolers, crates, and treasure chests to obtain TP. You can also earn a bit of TP whenever you defeat enemies so it is worth scouring an area and actively wiping them out. Keep an eye out of Henrietta during quests since one of the possible upgrades you can get from her is a card called King of Tentacles that grants 100 TP. Sweet!

You can use TP to purchase cards from Jimmy. You can also use TP to bribe him into upgrading your cards or even reshuffling the current list of cards. Take note that you can't stock on TP as your TP count is reset after every run. That's why you should always use it during the session instead of letting it go to waste.

Reviving Teammates

South Park: Snow Day! is a 4-person co-op game so whether you're playing solo or with other friends, you'll always have 3 other teammates at any given time, with the available non-player slots filled automatically by AI-controlled characters. Getting downed by enemies or bosses is a normal gameplay occurrence so knowing how the revival system works will work towards your advantage.

When an ally is downed, a red dotted circle will appear as well as a small skull icon to mark their location. While downed, your allies can't fight or use their skills but they still have the ability to crawl towards you (or away from you if they want to troll around). To revive a teammate, you just need to stand within the revival circle around them until the process is complete. It is possible for multiple allies to stand together within that revival field to speed up the process. On the other hand, it is also possible for multiple downed players to be revived by a single ally if they get close together and have their revival fields overlap.

As you progress in the game, consider getting the Reviving Aura card that turns your Healing Totems into revival points. This is extremely useful in higher level quests and encounters where you're almost always guaranteed to get downed several times in a run.

Cards

Cards are integral parts of the combat system as they allow you to use powerful abilities that can affect the flow of combat. The ability and effectiveness of these cards will depend on their rarity. There are five rarity ranks for the cards, as arranged from the weakest to the most powerful: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, and Ultra-Legendary.

There are two types of cards that you'll encounter:

  • Upgrade Cards: Cards that will permanently add various buffs and bonus effects to your character, abilities, or party.
  • Bullshit cards: These are more powerful than Upgrade Cards but can only be activated in very limited number of uses.

After starting every run, you'll get to choose an Upgrade Card and a Bullshit Card to carry for that session. You'll also encounter Jimmy during runs where you can exchange your TP to get new cards or upgrade the cards you have already unlocked. The cards listed by Jimmy are randomized though only the ones you have unlocked through challenges will be displayed. You can spend TP as well to have Jimmy reshuffle these cards.

During a run, you might also find a Foil randomly from a treasure chest. This item will upgrade one of the cards that you currently use during that run.

Finally, if you happen to encounter Henrietta, you can check whatever randomized cards she has available. When you see the Non-conformist card as one of the options she has, you can consider getting it since this card provides a +1 level of all your Upgrade Cards.

Know your weapons

The game has six different weapons (three melee, three ranged) to choose from before starting a mission. Three of them are available at the start of the game while the others will require you to complete specific quests before you can unlock them. These weapons will have their individual attacks, combos, and upgrades. As such, when selecting your weapon, you should also make sure that your perks and powers play around the strengths and cover the weaknesses of your weapon.

Here's a quick overview of the weapons that you can select in the game.

  1. Dagger: Available at the start of the game. This small pair of blades enable your kid to perform a flurry of quick attacks that can also inflict the Bleeding status. Available upgrades include Back Stab, Flying Daggers, Hemorrhage, and Bad Blood
  2. Sword and Shield: You have to complete the quest "Ice to Meet You" to unlock this weapon. The sword gives you access to moderate attack speeds and the shield gives you the ability to block attacks. You can also perform a Shield Bash to inflict damage with your shield. Available upgrades include: I'm Rubber, Counter Strike, Shield Charge, and Omni Block.
  3. Two-handed Axe: You have to complete the quest "Dragon Killer" to unlock this weapon. This weapon's attack speed is slow but can hit multiple enemies at a time with each swing. You can also charge up your attack and unleash a whirlwind move that damages enemies around you. Available upgrades include: Shredder, Vortex, Hurry-cane, Thirsty Cleaver, Shockwave, and Thunderstruck.
  4. Bow: Available at the start of the game. The bow has a slow firing rate but incredible range. You can charge up its attack to enable Sniper Shots that deal higher damage. Upgrades include: Ricochet, Multishot, Double Tap, Long Shot, and Stinky Shaft.
  5. Staff: Available at the start of the game. The staff offers average attack speed, with each fireball capable of burning several enemies at once. You can charge up its attack and inflict larger AoE blasts. Available upgrades include: Bounding Blaze, Three-way, Primed Volley, and Leeching Flames.
  6. Wand: You have to complete the quest "Weed Killer" to obtain this weapon. This magical weapon generates flames in a straight, short line. The upgrades you select for this weapon drastically changes its attack range, pattern, and behavior. Upgrades include: Blast Wave, Tesla Coil, Chain Lighting, Napalm, Fire Elemental, and Molotov Cocktail

Beware of various status effects

Status effects in the game are not applied instantly. Instead, there is a gauge that will slowly fill up as you get hit by attacks that inflict the same status effect. Once the bar is filled, the status effect and its nasty effects get activated. If the status effect is not being inflicted regularly, the gauge slowly rolls back until it disappears.

For example, if you get Grossed Out, your character will puke their guts out, particularly preventing you from doing anything since you are locked in a lengthy and annoying puking animation. Burn and Bleeding ailments gradually deplete your HP over time. Healing these status effects immediately is encouraged. Take note that you can also inflict these status effects to bosses. Doing so will help immensely in your battle.

Don't worry too much about stamina

The game has a stamina system though it only limits their ability to sprint. No stamina is used up when performing attacks or dodging so that's a relief. When running at the stamina runs out, the character will be forced to walk normally as it recovers. Stamina is replenished automatically.

Infernal Pact

Nichole is one of the NPCs that will appear during runs and will only spawn after completing the main story once. When the condition is met, she'll spawn at random spots throughout the level. When you interact with her, she'll offer you various cosmetics, Dark Matter, or Platinum Points in exchange for applying one to two Hostile Upgrade Cards. These are upgrade cards that will affect enemies for the run, giving them advantage over your party. Everyone in the party must sign the pact to apply its effects. The rewards will only be awarded after completing the level while at a disadvantage due to the effects of the Hostile Upgrade Cards.

Prioritize ranged enemies

When facing a group of enemies, always try to take out the ranged enemies like archers and siege units first. They can inflict devastating damage from a distance and might even inflict nasty AoE damage or status effects like freeze and burn. Shield bearers can be annoying too but at least they can't pick off your allies with cheap shots from a distance.

Interact with cannons

Each chapter will have at least one cannon which you can interact with and enable a short challenge that can give you a lot of resources like TP, Dark Matter, and possibly card upgrades. You can load cannonballs found nearby and use the cannon to fire them at ice domes within the cannon's firing range. These domes will have a distinct blue aura which will give away their location and guide you where to shoot at. As a general tip, whenever you see a cannonball nearby, it is highly likely that there's a cannon nearby.
