Chapter 1: Lineland

In the first chapter of Super Paper Mario there are 4 parts to a world called Lineland. This is where Mario & Tippi are beginning their quest to retrieve the pure hearts.

1-1: The Adventure Unfolds
Mario & Tippi enter the land of Lineland to seek help from Bestovius, who will teach Mario how to flip into 3D. The player must find Bestovius's house & use Tippi's power while inside to reveal a hidden door. Entering, Bestovius realises Mario is the legendary hero & grants Mario the new 3D ability. The player now can use the 3D ability to get into the door outside which is blocked with blocks. The player now needs to make their may through the level until they reach the end.

1-2: Afoot In The Foothills
The player must climb several small peaks, progressing to a small town. The player will need to enter a house & pull a lever to make a bridge appear, leading into this town. While in the town, the player can shop, while discovering that a 2nd bridge must be built to complete the level. Entering the second house in the town & switching to 3D will reveal a hidden pipe. Enter it & the player will discover a room with no exit. Using Tippi's power, a chest will be revealed. Opening it will free Thoreau, the hand pixl. He gladly joins Mario & Tippi & can be used to complete the level.

1-3: The Sands Of Yold
Mario, Tippi & Thoreau have now entered the Yold desert, which they must cross if they want to retrieve the pure heart. As the player progresses through the level, they will see a red palm tree. Jumping under it many times will reveal a hidden door. As the player progresses through the level, they will come across one of Count Bleck's minions; O'Chunks. Using Thoreau, he can easily be thrown & jumped on, which will help in defeating him. O'Chunks flees, which opens up the next door. The player will later come across a blue platform. Pressing - & 1 while standing on top of it will open up the exit of this level.

1-4: Monster Of The Ruins
Mario, Tippi & Thoreau have now entered the Yold Ruins; where the pure heart is said to be. Progressing through the level the player will need to use Tippi's power on several occasions to reveal hidden doors & platforms. Eventually after solving the puzzles, the player will come across 4 blocks. If they switch into 3D, they will see the order in which they have to hit the blocks in. A set of large stairs will appear. Climbing them will take the player outside. Outside the guardian of the pure heart will stand guard. Once he knows Mario is the legendary hero, he immediately lets Mario & his pixls pass. Just as they are about to, Dimentio; one of Count Bleck's minions appears, brainwashing the guard named Fracktail to attack the heroes. Once the player defeats Fracktail (by using Frackles on Fracktail's antenna), they will enter a new part of the ruins; where Merlumina will award the heroes the pure heart.


Interlude:
Princess Peach awakes to find 2 koopas next to her. They are telling her that they need to get out of the castle, & that Nastasia is rounding up people & brainwashing them. The player can control Peach during this interlude. Several doors are locked throughout the castle, limiting the areas Peach & the koopas can go. 1 of the koopas confronts Nastasia, but is brainwashed. Peach & the remaining koopa eventually make their way to a balcony-like area, where they realise it is a dead end. As they are about to turn around, Nastasia & brainwashed minions appear. The remaining koopa is brainwashed. Just as Nastasia is about to brainwash Peach, she is lifted into the air & somehow teleported away. She appears in Flipside where she joins Mario, Tippi & Thoreau on the quest for the remaining pure hearts.
