10 More Games that Deserve a Sequel

9. Jet Set Radio

Sega has more, so much more, in its troubled past. Pretty much its entire catalog on the ill-fated Dreamcast could stand as a testament to projects never receiving their just dues. One of the most eye-popping of those games is Jet Set Radio, a story about some skating street punks in a colorful Japan. This title has had its hand in a lot of captivating themes, before dropping off the map.

One of its most immediate claims to fame was the game's appearance, which was one of the first to sport the now oft used cel-shading design of bright, contrasted cartoon visuals. Given that the subject also linked the use of in-your-face graffiti pieces only strengthened its confident burst into the gaming realm. Welcome to Attitude City!

So, Jet Set Radio had two main items, skating and painting graffiti, but there's even more to complete this package. Furthering a solid understanding of youth culture, the soundtrack provided fast, pulsing beats. These tracks could be heard while freely exploring the city, connecting to the wanderlust of open world games. Naturally, there were plenty of action sequences as well, pitting artists against rival gangs or resisting the influence of police, which indicated the rebellious nature of youth. If video games are meant for divertissement away from the adult space, then this game lived and breathed the adolescent mindset.

When the Dreamcast was going towards belly up status, the series moved to Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox, seemingly evading doom. There, Sega offered all the things that made the original great, while ironing out errors and adding multiplayer options. It seemed like a dream come true to continue the lively fun of the skating title, but then it just vanished.

A port of the original was recently remade in high definition, which was immediately met with a warm welcome from gamers. With the open world theme growing out to be the giant it is now and people wanting to get away from games that are too serious, Jet Set Radio could reemerge and fix a lot of problems, one spray can at a time.
