What is the Fishing Rod used for in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? As the name of the item states, this lets you Fish in different bodies of water in order for you to catch fish and other creatures. In this guide, we’ll talk about how to this Tool, and the resources that you can get from fishing.


Fishing Rod Tool

One of the first tools that you can create after learning from the DIY Workshop of Tom Nook is the Flimsy Fishing Rod, you can then upgrade this to more durable versions later. This tool lets you fish in different bodies of water.

Once you see a shadow that’s lurking in the water, you hold the rod and press A to cast it. The Fish will nibble first and then you’ll hear a louder splash if they’ll bite. Simply press A again to reel it in once you hear the splash.

Resources obtained

The main resource you’ll be getting is Fish. There is a total of 80 species that you can catch in total within a year. Your main goal for fishing is to provide them to the Museum as part of the collection, as well as unlocking them in your Critterpedia app. Take note though that sometimes you’ll be able to fish a stone as well.

Excess Fish can be sold
Excess Fish can be sold
