The GU Top 10 Celebrity Gamers

While nobody really knows the origins of and the history behind the phenomenon of the Top Ten List -- it would not surprise us if there are Top Ten Lists mixed in with the Cave Drawings of Neanderthals -- in terms of the Internet and all the hep cats who dwell there, most net'heads consider the efforts of Squire David Michael Letterman (AKA The Weatherman, AKA The Man who congratulated a Tropical Storm for being Promoted to a Hurricane) as the primary power behind the elevation of the Top Ten List to its present form of importance.

Here at GU we have done a few Top Ten Lists, and of course we own web browsers, so we have taken a look at a lot of other sites and their Top Ten Lists, but save for the Top Ten Games of the moment types, we feel that truly important research and casting of Top Ten Lists that provide meaningful and useful information has simply not occurred. Well, we aim to correct that situation! So the Staff Writers and Editors at Gaming Update are proud to present you, the reader, with the First in our new series of Truly Meaningful and Useful Top Ten Lists: The GU Top 10 Celebrity Gamers .

These celebrity gamers were picked from the list of celebs who have been caught gaming in public, gaming on video, and gaming on airplanes (they are all guilty of the last).

Jack Black (pictured above in his film The School of Rock) was awarded the Blockbuster Entertainment Award (2001), the MTV Movie Award (2004) for Best Comedic Performance, and the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Blimp Award (2009) Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie. Dr. Black has been nominated for pretty much every award you can give to a karmically perfect human being, but graciously declined them so that others might experience the joy of winning an award.

Thomas Jacob "Jack" Black is an American comedian, actor, musician, and hard core videogamer whose Gamer Tag and PSN ID have been classified as Top Secret by the US Government as a safety measure to prevent the Internet from becoming unbalanced and tipping over should the world learn what his Gamer Tag is and rush to "friend" him.

Born in Santa Monica, California, Black is the son of two satellite engineers -- his mother being Judith Cohen-Black, an engineer who worked extensively on the Hubble Space Telescope Project -- and his father being Thomas William Black, who worked for the (REDACTED) on the (REDACTED) and (REDACTED) Projects, whose technology is so advanced that they were used by the (REDACTED) to scan barcodes on yogurt containers from space as a proof-in-concept demonstration.

While he considers himself to be a professional videogamer first and foremost, Dr. Black humbly believes that his careers in the fields of music, acting, and comedy help him to relax before picking up his favorite gamepad (which he has named "Sweaty Betty") as he trains for the London Olympics. "Videogaming is an excellent source for banking positive karma," Black explains, adding that "games like the Forza Motorsports Series and Viva Pinata are the fast track to Karma Gold."

Dr. Black recently completed his qualifications for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and has been selected as a member of Team USA: Videogaming, Team USA: Air Guitar, and Team USA: Triathlon (for the brutal sports of Rock Band 3, Guitar Hero IV, and DJ Hero 2). Dr. Black was voted Team Captain for Team USA: Videogaming, an appointment for which both the Russian and the Italian Olympic Committees have filed formal protests over, stating that "Jack Black is too good, our athletes are so frightened of him that they must change their underwear twelve times a day!"

The choice of Dr. Black as The Top Celebrity Gamer of All Time was not an easy one according to our judges, who emphasize that he only beat out the second-place nominee, Dr. Stephen Hawking, by two Achievements in A Kingdom for Keflings, and one Achievement in Halo: CEA.
