Elden Ring Beginner Tips and Tricks

Listed below are several Beginners Tips and Tricks which will help you in Elden Ring.

Picking your Character Class

Choosing your character class in Elden Ring is not that important a decision as the game allows you to customize whichever character you pick to your preferences as you progress. If you are an absolute beginner and are unsure what character class to pick then it is recommended that you select the Hero as this is the strongest class type. You may also want to consider the Warrior who is proficient with light weapons or the Confessor which is an all-round class that can also perform basic magic from the start of the game.

Advance Cautiously

Danger lurks everywhere in Elden Ring, so it is essential that you keep your guard up at all times, especially when you are exploring areas you have never been to for the first time. The only time you should run is when you are absolutely certain the way ahead is clear of enemies, otherwise you should always be advancing cautiously.

Search for Sites of Lost Grace

Sites of Lost Grace in Elden Ring act as the checkpoints you need to find as they allow you to level up character stats and memorize new spells. You will also be able to rest and restore your health, focus points, and reusable flasks. Sites of Lost Grace also serve as fast travel points, storage management, and safe areas in most dungeons. They will also point you toward your main objective if you are lost or unsure where to go next.

Prioritize getting Torrent

Getting Torrent, your trusty horse-like steed should be your first priority as he will enable you to get around the Lands Between a lot quicker and easier. In order to get Torrent early in the game you need to follow the Sites of Grace so that you meet the mysterious Melina. Once you encounter her she will give you a special item called the Spectral Seed Whistle which will enable you to call Torrent.

Purchase the Crafting Kit First

Once you venture into the open world you need to make the Crafting Kit your first purchase. You will be able to buy this item from the merchant found in the Church of Elleh, which you will find north of the starting area for 300 Runes. The Crafting Kit unlocks recipes for a variety of things which includes valuable buffs, potent perfumes, weapon greases, throwable pots, and health items for your mount.

Bank your Runes

Once you have met Melina you will be able to level up the Runes you earn from defeating enemies. Leveling up Runes is the only way you can increase your level in Elden Ring, so it is important that you protect them by banking them whenever possible. The reason for this is if you die you will lose all the Runes you have accumulated that are on you at the time of death and will only be able to get them back by returning to the spot where you died to retrieve them. If you die a second time while attempting to retrieve the Runes you will lose them forever. The Level Up option at Sites of Grace will indicate how many Runes you need for the next level.

Sneak Past Enemies

During the early stages of the game you will encounter enemies that are far too strong for you to defeat. When this happens you need to run away and return later after you have leveled up your character or acquired weapons that are more powerful. Keep in mind you can also sneak past a lot of these enemies, particularly at night by hiding and moving slowly while crouching.
