Mass for the Dead is a hero-collecting RPG based on Kugane Maruyama's Overlord light novel and anime series. You take on the role of Momonga, a hardcore player of the online game 'Yggdrasil'. The game is shutting down, but he decides to stay on till the very last moment, until he discovers he’s unable to log out. Now trapped in the defunct MMORPG, he takes on a new name in Ainz Ooal Gowns, a skeletal mage, and will now help his guild survive in this dark fantasy world. During the game itself you will need to assemble a team of four characters to battle their way through the story mode. Check out our Mass for the Dead Walkthrough and Guide to get help in the game.
Don't Skip the Tutorial
You will start with the characters you earn from the tutorial even if you skip the tutorial. You can rerread the stories but cannot reread the battle instructions. Therefore if you are a new player it is advised that you begin Mass for the Dead by playing the tutorial.
Best Starter Character
When you begin Mass for the Dead you get 5 characters or damage relics, you may want to consider rerolling until you get Ainz who is the best starter character. Getting him later in the game can be a pain as there is only a 0.2% chance of getting him through the gacha.
Reroll on Nazarick Festival
Ideally you want to begin the game with at least one 5 star character in your team. On the final day of the month, the Nazarick festival will appear. It has double rates and banner exclusive characters which are significantly better than normal/story/event banners, so you might want to reroll on this banner to get at least 2 of them.
Obtaining Character Skills
Every character in Mass for the Dead has 3 active skills that they can use after reaching level 80. Beyond level 80, they will be able to obtain a passive skill per 10 level up to 2 extra passive skills.
Increase Character Level Cap
You can increase the level cap for your characters in Mass for the Dead by farming limit breaking materials. These can be bought in the shop or farmed through solo/multiplayer stages. Leveling will be faster once you reach level 60 as the EXP requirement is significantly less.
Visit the Item Shop
Make sure you regularly visit the Item Shop as it refreshes every 24 hours. To help level up your characters you should buyout the skill leveling up scrolls and tier 1 sword/defense books on a daily basis.
Reaching the Final Stage
If you are having trouble defeating the 3rd stage boss and proceeding to the final stage try charging up the special bar to max on all your characters before attempting to kill the boss.
