#1 - Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Director George Romero's masterpiece and still the best zombie movie ever made. Shot in 1968 on a low budget with grainy film stock this black-and-white movie is filled with haunting imagery and tension. The movie tells the story of a group of survivors holed up in a farmhouse that gets attacked by a horde of zombies.
#2 - Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Another classic by George Romero, unlike his first zombie movie this sequel was a big budget project and had groundbreaking special effects for the time. This movie tells the story of a group of survivors that are trapped in a shopping mall that is overun by the walking dead. Dawn of the Dead is often cited as the greatest zombie movie of all time and is filled with unforgetable iconic imagery.
#3 - 28 Days Later (2002)
This British post-apocalyptic zombie movie depicts the breakdown of society following the accidental release of a highly contagious virus and focuses upon the struggle of four survivors who try cope with the destruction fo the life they once knew. The movie is credited with reinvigorating the zombie genre of horror movie and spawned the 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
#4 - Zombieland (2009)
This comedy horror movie set in the early 21st century tells the story of how a shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.
#5 - The Walking the Dead (TV Series 2000 – )
I know it's not a movie but it had to make the list its that good. Based on a comic book series The Walking Dead is a horror drama following the survivors of a zombie apocalypse who are searching for a safe haven while being tracked and menaced by the undead. There is currently eight seasons of The Walking Dead.
