Wuthering Waves have Challenges. These are different modes where you can defeat groups of enemies or special bosses then spend waveplates (stamina) to claim the various rewards they offer. While playing the game, tackling these challenges will be part of your regular game progression since they'll be the main source of various resources needed for leveling up and ascending your resonators, weapons, and echoes. In this page, we will discuss the various challenges you can find in the game as well as their rewards.
Forgery Challenges allow you to farm Weapon and Skill Materials. The entrance to these challenges also serve as convenient teleport points so if you happen to find one while exploring, just interact with it to unlock them so you can teleport to the entrances again from your map.
There are six different types of challenges in the game that you can conveniently access using the Quickbook. Some challenges have fixed locations on the map which you can quickly access directly or by using nearby resonance towers. Some challenges can also be repeated immediately right after clearing it for convenience (as long as you have enough waveplates).
Claiming your rewards for successfully clearing the challenges will cost 40 waveplates. You'll get the following rewards on any of the challenges, except for some exclusive materials that you can only farm from that specific Challenge.
Challenge | Exclusive Rewards |
---|---|
Flaming Remnants | Polarized Metallic Drip, Reactive Metallic Drip, Inert Metallic Drip |
Misty Forest | Andante Helix, Adagio Helix, Lento Helix |

Simulation Challenges can be started by talking to Yhan back in the northern part of the city. After unlocking his location, you will be able to conveniently teleport to his location. There are three challenges available that will allow you to farm Resonance Potions, Energy Cores, and Shell Credits. The difficulty for these stages will increase automatically as you increase your SOL3 Phase Level. This will also improve the quality of the Resonance Potions and Energy Cores or the amount of Shell Credits you can earn.
Each stage will also have a Sonoro Sphere Effect active, which provides a considerable damage bonus to specific elements. Similar to other challenges, all training Simulation modes will also award you with Union EXP, Intimacy, and Shell Credits (except the training for Shell Credits which will only award Intimacy and Union EXP) Claiming your rewards for Simulation Training will cost 40 Waveplates (stamina)
Training | Sonoro Sphere Effect |
---|---|
Resonance Potion | Glacio Damage increased by 40% |
Energy Core | Fusion Damage increased by 40% |
Shell Credit | Electro Damage increased by 40% |
There are nine overworld bosses that you can fight currently in the game, and all of them drop valuable ascension materials for your resonator. Bosses are not unlocked automatically by default; you'll need to find their locations and fight them at least once. Thankfully, the boss icons are available on the map at the start, even on covered regions where you haven't activated the towers yet. If you're looking for a specific boss, you can access the Guidebook or check the details of the ascension material from the character's screen then use the "Detect" or "Proceed" functions to automatically highlight the boss' location on the map.
All bosses will have a nearby teleporter for your convenience so make sure that you have them activated as soon as you can before facing the boss. Aside from ascension materials and the usual rewards (Union EXP, Intimacy, and Shell Credits), you can also collect Resonance Potions, Energy Cores, and Sealed Tubes as additional rewards. There's also a chance for a boss to leave its echo after the battle. Collecting this echo will allow you to equip that boss' echo version that you can use in combat. You'll need to spend 60 Waveplates to collect the rewards after defeating the boss.
Boss | Ascension Material |
---|---|
Crownless | Strife Tacet Core |
Tempest Mephis | Hidden Thunder Tacet Core |
Thundering Mephis | Thundering Tacet Core |
Inferno Rider | Rage Tacet Core |

Tacet Fields are battlefields on the map where you can trigger battles against waves of enemies. At the end of the battle, you need to spend 60 Waveplates for a chance to obtain new random echoes, tuners, and sealed tubes (on top of the standard Union EXP and Intimacy). Clearing a field for the first time will award you with some Astrites and a set of echoes as well.
Each Tacet Field has the chance to give you an echo belonging to two Sonata (effect) groups. The rewards and probability of rewards will depend on your Data Bank level and SOL3 Phase level. You can check the list of absorbable echoes from a tacet field by selecting its icon on the map.

These are calamity-level bosses that you can challenge up to three times a week. They drop advanced skill materials, weapon molds, and other standard rewards. At least one boss (Scar) can be unlocked after completing a main story quest.
This permanent mode is similar to Genshin Impact's Spiral Abyss or Honkai Star Rail's Forgotten Hall. Here you can tackle increasingly difficult battles with environmental effects applied and with decreasing vigor of participating characters - practically requiring you to have at least three combat-ready teams (9 built characters) to fully experience this mode.
The Tower has three zones: Stable, Experimental, and Hazard. Each Zone can host one to three towers. As you clear stages, more zones will be unlocked. The rewards in the Stable and Experimental Zones can only be claimed once but they're somewhat easier to clear at lower levels. The Hazard Zone is the game's repeatable end-game content where the rewards get reset after a period of time, which allows you to farm the rewards again after reset. You can earn Astrites, Advanced EXP materials, and Hazard Records - which are special tokens that can be exchanged for extra items from the Points Shop.
Vigor is a gimmick in the game where a certain amount is deducted for characters challenging a tower. Once a character's vigor runs out, he or she can no longer participate in battle for this tower. This limiting factor prevents players from blowing through the content with just a single, overpowered team.
